No major injuries after small plane crashes in Tarrant County south of Azle, officials say
Tarrant County sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and federal investigators responded to the crash of a small plane south of Azle on Monday afternoon.
According to the FAA, a Starduster II crashed in a field near Flying Oakes Airport about 2:45 p.m.
No serious injuries were reported. Two people were on board on the plane. An Azle Fire Department spokesperson said both the pilot and the passenger were out of the plane and walking when first responders arrived.
The pilot and passenger were treated on scene for minor injuries and released.
The crash scene is in a field behind homes near the 4000 block of Silver View Lane in northwestern Tarrant County.
The plane caught fire either before or after the crash. Part of the field also caught fire, according to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office. Firefighters extinguished the blaze shorty before 3 p.m.
Images from TV news helicopters showed only the charred frame of the aircraft remained after the plane burned.
The cause and what led up to the crash are under investigation, the FAA said.
