Two 9-year-old girls, two adults killed in head-on Parker County car crash, DPS says
Four people, including two 9-year-old girls, were killed Sunday afternoon in a head-on crash between a car and a pickup truck in Parker County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2023 Subaru Legacy was traveling south on Farm Road 51, about three-tenths of a mile south of Friendship Road. The Legacy veered into the northbound lane and hit a 2021 Ford F-150, a DPS spokesperson said in a news release.
Investigators said they don’t yet know why the car veered into oncoming traffic.
The driver of the Legacy, 29-year-old Kathryn Elizabeth Lain, of Boyd, died in the crash along with three passengers in the Ford F-150.
The passengers who died were two 9-year-old girls from Springtown and 66-year-old Gregory Daniel Schilb, also of Springtown, DPS said.
The driver of the F-150, 43-year-old Autumn Rae Reed, of Springtown, was taken to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth with serious injuries.
The children were identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as Bailey Leighann Reed and Londyn Nicole Hargis. Springtown ISD officials said they were fourth-grade students in the school district. Reed is a teacher at Goshen Creek Elementary in Springtown, according to her Facebook page.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I share the devastating news of a tragic accident that occurred yesterday on Highway 51,” Springtown ISD Superintendent Shane Strickland wrote Monday in a message to the district’s families. “Out of four total fatalities, we lost two precious fourth graders. Additionally, one of our beloved Goshen Creek Elementary teachers was severely injured. The teacher was careflighted from the scene and is currently in stable condition but faces a long road to recovery.”
Grief counselors were available Tuesday at Goshen Creek Elementary.
The fatal accident was reported shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday.
