The beginning of fall marks the start of pumpkin patch season and North Texas has plenty to choose from this year.
Whether you’re looking for fall festivals with amusement rides or a park with pumpkin art flare or a classic pumpkin patch and hayride experience, there’s something for everyone within an hour’s drive of Fort Worth.
One popular patch, the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch, will not reopen this year. In a Facebook post, the business said they were not able to hire enough employees to operate the patch “safely and efficiently” for the 2022 season. The Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch has been in operation for the last 29 years.
While the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch is closed, several other patches and festivals will be open this year.
Here are the North Texas pumpkin patches open for this year’s fall season:
Hall’s Pumpkin Farm and Corn Maze
- Open for the season: Sept. 30-Oct. 31
- Where: 3420 Hall Johnson Road, Grapevine
- Hours: Wednesday-Thursday 3-8 p.m., Friday 3-9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Sunday 1-8 p.m.
- Cost: Varies by date and age
Ring in the fall season at Hall’s Pumpkin Farm and Corn Maze, which offers pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, hayrides and a corn maze with stalks up to 9 feet tall. Hall’s Pumpkin Farm and Corn Maze is not open Mondays, but will be open on Columbus Day, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., and on Halloween with hours pending.
General admission is free Wednesday and Thursday before 5 p.m.; after 5 p.m. tickets for adults and kids over 12 are $10, $5 for ages 4-11 and free for kids 3 and under. Seniors and veterans are free all day Wednesday and Thursday.
Friday through Sunday tickets are $15 for adults and kids over 12, $10 for ages 4-11 and free for kids 3 and under. Tickets for seniors and veterans are $5 Friday through Sunday.
General admission covers parking and the corn maze.
Hayrides are priced separately at $5 during the day and $3 after dark. All tickets, including hayride tickets, must be paid in cash.
No pets, outside food or professional photography sessions are allowed.
Howell Family Farms Pumpkin Nights
- Open for the season: Sept. 22-Oct. 30
- Where: 4016 W Division St, Arlington
- Hours: Daily 6-11 p.m.
- Cost: Varies by date and age
Pumpkin Nights in Arlington is hosted by Howell Family Farms and showcases real pumpkin art, both carved and painted, along with thousands of hand-carved artificial pumpkins for other installations.
Food, beverages and photo opportunities are available at the Pumpkin Village before guests journey through the half-mile long walking path to view the pumpkin art.
Weekday tickets are $18 for ages 13 and up, $14 for kids ages 4-12 and free for 3 and under. Weekend tickets are $26 for ages 13 and up, $18 for ages 4-12 and free for 3 and under. All tickets must be purchased online and are non-refundable.
Parking is $10 per car and can be paid by cash or card.
Sunset Hill Tree Farm Pumpkin Patch
- Open for the season: Oct. 1-30
- Where: 3400 County Road 206, Alvarado
- Hours: Weekends 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Cost: $10, free for ages three and under
The Sunset Hill Tree Farm Pumpkin Patch has a variety of activities for all guests to enjoy, from hayrides to photo opportunities, to a farm zoo, bounce house and more. There will be pumpkins available to purchase. The farm’s cafe will be open for those wanting to grab a bite.
Sunset Hill Tree Farm will have discount opportunities throughout their patch’s season.
Free admission will be available for all first responders during the first weekend and for all military, both active duty and veterans, on Oct. 8 and 9. On Oct. 15 and 16 all teachers get in free.
Families with more than one child qualify for one free admission during the weekend of Oct. 22 and 23.
Guests can receive 10% off their ticket during the last weekend of the season, Oct. 29-30 and guests who bring a church bulletin can get 15% off every Sunday.
Country Critters Farm Pumpkin Patch
- Open for the season: Oct. 1-Nov. 5
- Where: 3709 County Road 617, Alvarado
- Hours: Weekends 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Oct. 10 10 a.m.- 3 p.m.
- Cost: $15, seniors $7, free for ages two and under
This Alvarado pumpkin patch offers weekend pony rides, a petting zoo, a hayride, maze and more. Kids over two get to pick a pie-sized pumpkin from the patch to decorate with markers.
Pets are not allowed on the farm. The farm will close due to inclement weather and staff recommend calling ahead to check if the farm is open after a heavy rainfall.
Mainstay Farm Park Fall Festival
- Open for the season: Sept. 24 through Nov. 5
- Where: 1004 West Bethesda Road, Cleburne
- Hours for Sept.: Saturday 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Hours for Oct.: Friday 5 p.m.-9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Hours for Nov.: Saturday 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
- Cost: Farm pass $29.95, season pass $49.95
The Mainstay Farm Park Fall Festival boasts over 30 attractions, including hayrides, a Ferris wheel, coaster, mazes and a 100-foot Super Chute Slide. Food is available at the farm, from grilled hamburgers and pizza to street tacos and nachos. Guests can enjoy a variety of beverages like a fresh-squeezed lemonade at The Squeeze or some Mainstay Farm wine at the Wine Terrace. Festival desserts include ice cream, floats, funnel cakes, kettle corn, cotton candy and more.
All passes can be purchased online on the Mainstay Farm Park website. Farm passes are good for one entry on any open day throughout the season, while season passes allow for unlimited visits to the festival.
Autumn at the Arboretum
- Open for the season: Sept. 17-Oct. 31
- Where: 8525 Garland Road, Dallas
- Hours: Daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Cost: $12-$20
Celebrate the 17th annual Autumn at the Arboretum featuring 100,000 pumpkins, gourds and squash from Floydada, Texas. This year’s Autumn at the Arboretum theme is “A Fall Fairy Tale” which will have Cinderella’s Carriage, a Pumpkin Village and a maze for kids.
A guided pumpkin hike takes place every Wednesday at 10 a.m. and the Dallas Gourd Patch will be open every Thursday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Tickets are $20 for ages 13 and up, $16 for ages 65 and older, $12 for ages 2-12 and free for kids under 2. Daytime parking is $11.

Shadow Creek Pumpkin Farm
- Open for the season: Oct. 1-31
- Where: 1530 Indian Creek Drive, Midlothian
- Hours: Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday 1-6 p.m., Oct. 10 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
- Cost: $15 ages 3-54, $12 ages 55 and older, veterans and first responders with ID, free for ages 2 and under
This 20-acre farm has shaded walkways decorated with pumpkins, barnyard animals, hayrides, a corn maze and photo opportunities throughout. Pumpkins of different shapes and sizes will be available for sale.
Cash is preferred at this patch, but Mastercard and Visa are accepted as well. Outside food and drink are allowed in the farm with the exception of alcoholic beverages. Parking to visit Shadow Creek Pumpkin Farm is free.
Only service dogs with documentation are permitted on the premises.

Pumpkins on the Prairie
- Open for the season: Oct. 1-31
- Where: 3521 Main Street, Frisco
- Hours: Monday-Friday 1 p.m.-7 p.m., Saturday: 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Sunday: 10:30 am-7:00 pm
- Cost: Free admission
There is no admission fee for this Frisco pumpkin patch, which will have pumpkins for sale, hay rides, a pumpkin play area and a bounce house. Face painting will be available Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. An ice cream and shaved ice dessert food truck will be available Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.
On Sunday, pumpkin sales open at 10:30 a.m. and all other activities begin at 11:30 a.m.
Pets are not allowed inside the patch, so guests are encouraged to leave their furry friends at home.
Events planned during this pumpkin patch’s season will be Pride Frisco Family Block Party from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 8, a Fall Craft Night on Oct. 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. and a Fall Festival on Oct. 23 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Pumpkins on the Prairie will be open on Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for a Frisco Independent School District school holiday.
The patch closes at 5 p.m. on Oct. 31.
Team Family Farms Pumpkin Patch Festival
- Open for the season: Sept. 24-Nov. 6
- Where: 1042 W Sherman Drive Suite 201, Aubrey
- Hours: Daily 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
- Cost: $12 weekdays, $20 weekends
The Team Family Farms Pumpkin Patch will have photo opportunities, a maze, a playground, barrel train rides for kids and more throughout the festival. Guests will also have a chance to feed the farm animals.
Closed-toe shoes are recommended by farm staff and pets are not allowed due to the farm animals on site. Outside coolers are not allowed on the farm on the weekends.
Big Orange Pumpkin Farm at Preston Trails Farm
- Open for the season: Sept. 17-Nov. 23
- Where: 15102 TX-289, Gunter
- Hours: Daily 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
- Cost: Monday-Friday $12, weekends $15, free for ages two and under
Preston Trail Farms is open year-round, offering everything from feed and hardware to gift shop goodies and cafe treats. Their pumpkin farm started in 1997, making this year the 25th anniversary of the Big Orange Pumpkin Farm season.
Weekday admission includes one small pumpkin, feed for the petting barn, hayride and entry into the roping pen and hay maze. Weekend admission includes a farm train ride, petting barn feed, hayride and entry into the roping pen and hay maze.
Leashed, well-behaved dogs are permitted.
