Driver found dead in wrecked car hours after crash near I-30 in Grand Prairie

An Irving driver was found dead in his vehicle Sunday hours after police say he crashed his 2016 Kia Sorento into the back of a Dodge Caliber on Interstate 30 in Grand Prairie.

Initially, Grand Prairie police found the Dodge Caliber at the crash scene and searched the area for the Kia on I-30 early Sunday, but they never located the car.

But on Sunday evening, a person alerted Grand Prairie police about finding a wrecked Kia in tall grass with a dead man inside near I-30.

Grand Prairie police arrived and found the body of the man, who was later identified as Fernando Santamaria Ochoa, 25, of Irving.

The crash was first reported about 2:50 a.m. Sunday on westbound I-30 near the Belt Line Road exit in Grand Prairie.

A 29-year-old Grand Prairie woman told police she was driving her 2007 Dodge Caliber westbound on the highway when she was hit from behind by another vehicle. She told authorities that vehicle left the scene. The woman was not injured.

After they were called back to the area on Sunday evening and located the wrecked vehicle, Grand Prairie police determined that Kia was the other vehicle involved in the crash early Sunday.
