Driver killed in single-car crash after leaving Arlington roadway, hitting tree

An unidentified driver died in Arlington early Friday after leaving the roadway and colliding with a tree, according to police.

The accident occurred about 1:45 a.m. in the 1900 block of East Mayfield Road, police said. Arlington officers saw that a car had hit the tree when they arrived at the crash scene, police said in a statement.

Investigators said the vehicle went off the road for an unknown reason. The driver, the sole occupant inside the vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Investigators have not ruled out speed as a possible contributing factor in this crash, police said.
