Fort Worth-area toddler dies by accidental drowning in swimming pool, authorities say
A 3-year-old boy died this week two days after drowning in a swimming pool in what authorities have called a tragic accident.
Carter Lee Sharp was pronounced dead Monday morning in the pediatric intensive care unit of Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. Around 4:25 p.m. Saturday, the Parker County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a drowning in a swimming pool at a home in the 6500 block of Old Brock Road, according to spokesperson Danie Huffman.
Sharp was at the residence of an acquaintance, she said.
The medical examiner determined the cause of death was complications from drowning and the incident was an accident.
The incident is still under routine investigation by the sheriff’s office, Huffman said. But at this time, she said, “it appears to be a very unfortunate accident.”
“Our hearts go out to the family for the loss of this little boy,” Huffman said.
Friends are rallying behind the Weatherford family by starting GoFundMe pages to show their love and support. The two drives for the Sharp family that appear on the website have raised more than $28,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.
One of the drives, which has raised around $18,000, was started when the 3-year-old was fighting for his life at Cook Children’s hospital, according to the description on the page. It has continued as a drive to support a family in a “desperate time of need,” the organizer wrote.
The other page for Sharp’s family raised around $11,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.
The organizer wrote on the page Sharp’s parents are going through what no parent should have to go through.
“The Sharp family is one of the best families I know and would do anything for anyone, now it is our time to help them,” the organizer wrote.
