17-year-old turns himself in after fatal shooting in Grand Prairie, police say
A 17-year-old turned himself in to police on Wednesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old.
Avante Stewart, 17, was arrested Wednesday shortly after Savon Bell, 23, was shot and killed in the 2400 block of S. Carrier Pkwy. in Grand Prairie. The Medical Examiner’s Office released Bell’s identity on Saturday.
According to a press release, officers responded to report of gunfire at about 11:12 p.m. Wednesday and found Bell inside a car with a gunshot wound.
Bell was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. Shortly after, Stewart contacted the police to turn himself in and was arrested, according to the press release.
In the release, detectives said they do not believe the shooting was a random incident and Bell may have been specifically targeted. The investigation is ongoing.
