Former Eastern Hills football player killed at party was ‘as good as they come’

Edgar Razo, the 21-year-old man shot and killed at a party near his home in Stop Six early Saturday morning, was “just a great guy to be around,” said Joshsel Mendez, a friend.

Razo, a former Eastern Hills High School football player, died at John Peter Smith Hospital at about 3 a.m., according to the Tarrant County medical examiner.

Razo was driven in a private vehicle to the hospital from the scene of the incident in the 5100 block of Calumet Street before officers arrived, police said. Police dispatched a total of 17 units to the scene, beginning shortly before 2:30 a.m.

Homicide detectives are investigating.

Mendez said he met Razo through a cousin and that he knew Razo for at least 10 years.

“He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Mendez said, becoming emotional.

“You’d never find somebody so understand and so willing to help you,” Mendez said. “If he’d just met you and you told him you needed help, he would find a way. He was as good as they come.”

Police said several people have been detained in the incident but did not say how many.

They did not release any additional information about Razo or the people who were detained, or additional details about the incident, including what led to the shooting.
