A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday, May 25, while trying to cross Interstate 20 in Arlington.

A car swerved to avoid the bike, police said, but a Toyota Prius traveling behind the first vehicle hit the cyclist. Officers responded to the major accident on I-20 near Matlock Road and Cooper Street about 3:50 p.m.

The bicyclist died at the scene, according to police. The Toyota’s driver and passengers were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The eastbound lanes of I-20 were shut down Monday afternoon while the crash was being cleared. Police said the crash is under investigation.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner will publicly identify the person who died. Police have not said if the Toyota’s driver will face charges.
