Arlington police took a man into custody after he reportedly fired shots in a residential neighborhood, leading to a standoff on Monday afternoon, Nov. 25.

Police cleared the scene of the critical incident in the 3600 block of Sandhurst Drive and lifted a previous shelter-in-place order, authorities said in a statement.

A police call log shows a 911 call about a shooting in progress came in at 12:11 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found that a man dealing with some emotional distress was barricaded inside the home with a gun, while everyone else was outside. There were no reports of any injuries, police said.

Residents were asked to stay out of the area or stay inside while the standoff was ongoing.

“Officers could see him with the gun — and so for everyone’s safety, we did temporarily ask neighbors to shelter in place,” a police spokesperson said.

Police attempted to communicate with the man and get him to come outside, and a SWAT team was eventually called to the scene.

The man came outside and was taken into custody without incident, police said in a statement about 2:20 p.m. Police later identified the man as 30-year-old Anthony McDonald, who was booked into the Arlington City Jail on one count of deadly conduct.
