18-year-old taken into custody in connection with Arlington murder case
An Arlington teen was in custody Tuesday after Arlington police say he shot and killed another man who was driving away from him after an argument, according to a warrant.
Stephan Salsberry, 18, fired four to five shots in the direction of a Chevrolet Suburban SUV on Saturday morning as the vehicle drove away, according to a warrant.
One of those shots hit and killed 20-year-old Anthony Porter Jr. of Arlington.
Salsberry fled the scene, but he was later arrested in Dallas, Arlington police said.
Salsberry faces a charge of murder in the case.
Porter and Salsberry got into a verbal argument Saturday morning at the Carriage House Apartments in Arlington, police said.
Porter and three friends got into the Chevrolet Suburban to leave the complex when Salsberry fired at them, according to the warrant released by Arlington police on Tuesday.
The warrant written by Arlington detective F. King gave this brief account of the shooting:
Porter and three friends drove to the apartment complex on Saturday morning, looking for a man. Porter and a friend got out of the Suburban, and asked around about the man. A resident told Porter that man was in jail, but his brother stayed at an apartment in the area.
Porter’s friend told Arlington police they had just knocked on an apartment door when Salsberry appeared brandishing a handgun.
“What did you say about my brother?” Salsberry said as he pointed the gun at Porter’s friend, according to the warrant. Porter’s friend pushed the gun away, but Salsberry and Porter engaged in an argument.
Porter’s friend signaled for their friends who were waiting in the Suburban to pull forward to pick them up. Porter and his friend got into the Suburban as Porter continued to argue with Salsberry, according to the warrant.
As the Suburban began to drive away, Salsberry is accused of firing shots at the vehicle. Salsberry told a witness, “they threatened to kill Reggie” before he fled the complex, the warrant says.
Responding Arlington officers later contacted a resident who had collected the shell casings after the shooting. The residents later led officers to a nearby dumpster where Salsberry had discarded the casings.
Witnesses identified the shooter as Salsberry.
