Death reported as suicide in 2016 was murder, police say. Fort Worth man arrested.
A man’s death reported as suicide in 2016 has now been ruled a homicide and detectives have arrested a 24-year-old Fort Worth man in the case, according to jail records on Wednesday.
Fort Worth detectives have not released any information on a motive for the shooting.
Marc Young, 24, of Fort Worth, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, according to Fort Worth Jail records.
Young is accused in the murder of 19-year-old Israel Isaac Brewer, of Kennedale, in September 2016.
Brewer died of a gunshot wound to his head on Sept. 10, 2016, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website. He died in Young’s home in southwest Fort Worth.
“This was reported to police as a suicide,” said Fort Worth police spokesman Buddy Calzada in a Wednesday email.
But through forensic testing and the investigation of detectives, the case was re-categorized as a homicide, Calzada said.
Fort Worth police did not release further information on the forensic testing or any other details on the evidence.
“The victim was shot by the suspect as they both stood in the kitchen of the residence,” Calzada said.
The shooting occurred in Young’s home in the 8900 block of Preakness Circle in Fort Worth, according to a police call log and the medical examiner’s website.
Relatives of Brewer could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday.
Young was in the Tarrant County Jail on Wednesday on $75,000 bond. A murder charge is expected to be filed against Young in the next few days, according to jail records.
