Man hits Arlington woman with stolen car, arrested when chase ends in Waco, police say

A 48-year-old man was in a Waco jail Monday after police say he carjacked a woman in Arlington on Sunday night, hit the woman with the vehicle when he fled the scene, and then led authorities on a lengthy chase that ended south of Waco.

The woman suffered minor injuries.

Arlington police identified the suspect as 48-year-old Aaron Maurice Spencer, who faces a robbery charge in Tarrant County.

Spencer was in the McLennnan County Jail in Waco on Monday afternoon on several charges stemming from the chase.

An Arlington police officer was on patrol in the 300 block of North Collins Street in Arlington shortly before 10:30 p.m. Sunday when she saw a woman struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of QuikTrip.

The officer tried to stop the driver, but the suspect sped off.

Another Arlington officer arrived on the scene to help the woman while the first officer began following the stolen car.

According to the woman and other witnesses, the woman had entered the convenience store and left her car running. She told officers she believed she had locked her vehicle.

When she returned to her vehicle, the woman told Arlington police, she saw an unknown man sitting in the driver’s seat.

The woman ran to her vehicle as he pulled out of a parking space, Arlington police said.

The woman was hit as the suspect drove away.

Other Arlington officers arrived and began a pursuit which took them to Dallas, and then southbound on Interstate 35E to Waxahachie, where Arlington police ended the chase.

But troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety took over the chase and ended it just south of Waco, Arlington police said.

The suspect, who was later identified as Spencer, was taken into custody late Sunday.

Along with the robbery charge in Arlington, Spencer faces charges of aggravated assault of a public servant, evading arrest, unauthorized use of a vehicle, recklessly fleeing from police and driving while intoxicated, according to jail records.

He was in the McLennan County Jail on Monday in lieu of $285,000 bond.
