Fort Worth-area woman arrested after attacking car with officer inside, police say
An Arlington woman was in custody Tuesday, accused of attacking a Mansfield patrol vehicle Monday while an officer was in the car.
The 50-year-old suspect is also the same woman who authorities believe damaged the front door of the Mansfield Public Safety building with a big wrench on Saturday.
Mansfield police identified the woman as Susan Herbert, who was arrested Monday after the incident with the police vehicle.
Mansfield police had not determined a motive for the alleged criminal mischief.
Herbert is accused of damaging the Mansfield patrol vehicle after she stopped in front of the officer on Farm Road 917. She yelled at him, and then began smashing the passenger side window of the patrol vehicle with a metal object, police said.
She was in the Tarrant County Jail in Fort Worth on Tuesday in lieu of $500 bond.
Herbert is expected to be charged with two counts of criminal mischief, according to Mansfield police.
The incident at the Mansfield Public Safety building occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. Saturday at 1305 E. Broad St. in Mansfield.
A police surveillance video showed a woman get out of a car, retrieve a wrench and walk up to the front door. She used the wrench to smash the glass door, shattering it.
The woman walked back to her car, but she stopped to shake out one shoe as it appeared pieces of glass had gotten into her footwear.
She returned to her white Volkswagen, placed the wrench in the backseat and then drove off.
No injuries were reported.
