Arlington man flees after killing his wife, then tries to kill himself, police say
The husband of a woman found dead in an Arlington home last week was in custody Monday and faces a charge of murder, according to Tarrant County jail records.
The suspect is Joseph Sudduth, 62, who was arrested on Friday in Temple, Texas.
Authorities had not released her name, but they confirmed on Monday that the victim was Sudduth’s wife.
A family member of Sudduth’s called Arlington police on Thursday, saying the woman might be dead inside her Arlington home.
Arlington police officers were dispatched around 7:40 p.m. Thursday to conduct a welfare check at a residence in the 6200 block of August Run Lane, the department said in a news release.
The officers forced entry into the residence, police said, and found a woman who was pronounced dead.
Police didn’t say how the woman was killed or how long she had been dead.
The family member who called in the tip also said Sudduth was in a hospital in Temple after he reportedly tried to overdose on medications in an attempt to kill himself, Arlington police said.
Detectives on Friday secured an arrest warrant for Sudduth on a murder charge, police said.
Police did not release any information on a motive.
Arlington detectives traveled to Temple over the weekend, and Sudduth was extradited back to the Tarrant County Jail.
Sudduth remained in the Tarrant County Jail on Monday, and no bond had been set for him.
