Arlington’s Six Flags Over Texas closing until the end of March due to coronavirus
Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington is closing until the end of March over growing concerns of the coronavirus, the theme park announced Friday.
The park is joining a growing list of local institutions that have shut their doors in the wake of the global coronavirus pandemic, from schools to event venues. At the end of March, Six Flags will re-evaluate the situation and make a decision on the status of the rollercoaster destination, the park said.
Though there have been no reported cases of the virus on the property, the park said, “the safety of our guests and team members is always our highest priority.”
Other Six Flags locations across the country are suspending operations amid the coronavirus outbreak, including parks in California, Arizona, Georgia, Oklahoma, Missouri, Maryland and New York, according to a message from CEO Mike Spanos. All parks will reportedly re-evaluate the situation at the end of March.
“We understand that these are challenging and unusual times,” Spanos said in the message. “Our goal is to support team members and our communities by never compromising the safety of guests or employees.”
Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington is home to more than 40 rides as well as restaurants and shopping vendors, according to its website.
