Fort Worth, Arlington, other area schools to close for at least 2 weeks
Fort Worth area school districts will be closed until at least the end of the month as the schools attempt to curb spread of the coronavirus.
“This will not be easy,” Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Kent Scribner wrote in an announcement this morning. “We are looking at ways to mitigate some of these circumstances. School administrators and teachers will continue to work to serve our children even though school is not in session.”
Scribner wrote that the district would be planning online engagement opportunities and to-go meals for children in great need.
Officials from the Fort Worth, Arlington, Mansfield and Keller school districts, which were on spring break this week, were part of a conference call regarding best plans for the coronavirus with Tarrant County public health officials. On Thursday, the McKinney, Plano and Frisco school districts announced they would be extending their spring breaks. Sporting and extracurricular activities have also been canceled by the districts.
“We don’t decide to close schools very often,” Arlington Superintendent Marcelo Cavazos said in a press release. “But we’re in an unprecedented situation that requires us to take unprecedented action.”
