Tarrant County reports fewest COVID deaths since August, 482 new cases
Update: This story has been updated to clarify the number of new cases reported on Monday.
Tarrant County reported three COVID-19 deaths and 482 new cases on Monday. Of the 482 cases reported Monday, 256 are from more than 30 days ago. These cases were delayed being reported from labs across the county.
The county reported 10 COVID deaths on Saturday and 10 on Sunday.
Monday’s three COVID-related deaths are the fewest since two were reported on Aug. 23.
The latest pandemic-related deaths include a Fort Worth man in his 30s, a Fort Worth man in his 40s, and a North Richland Hills man in his 60. One of the three did not have underlying health conditions, according to officials.
Sunday’s pandemic-related deaths included an Arlington man in his 50s, a Grapevine man in his 50s, a Euless woman in her 50s, a Fort Worth woman in her 50s, a North Richland Hills woman in her 70s, an Arlington woman in her 70s, a Grand Prairie man in his 70s, a Fort Worth woman in her 70s, and two Fort Worth women in their 80s.
All 10 had underlying health conditions, according to officials.

The county has reported 363,535 COVID-19 cases, including 4,730 deaths and an estimated 348,952 recoveries.
Note to readers: Tarrant County does not release data on the vaccination status of recently diagnosed patients or deaths. Officials have released this type of data once in June and it showed that nearly 100% of the new cases reported at the time (from May to mid-June) were in people who were not vaccinated. Further, county officials said fewer than 200 of those new cases at the time were in previously vaccinated Tarrant residents.
COVID-19 hospitalizations
Hospitalized COVID patients decreased by 24 to 317 in the latest seven-day moving average. The pandemic high was 1,528 on Jan. 6.
COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased to 7% from 8% of the total number of beds in Tarrant County and make up 9% of the 3,565 occupied beds. The rate was at a pandemic-high 38% on Jan. 10.
Confirmed COVID patients decreased to 6.26% from 6.83% of all available hospital beds in the North Central Texas Trauma Region, which includes 45 counties (divided into three regions). The rate has been below 15% since Oct. 1.
Hospital beds
Tarrant County’s hospital bed occupancy decreased to 82% from 85%, according to county data. Available hospital beds increased by 57 to 807. The pandemic low was 360 on Sept. 20.
ICU beds
Adult ICU bed occupancy decreased to 88% from 89%. The rate was last at a pandemic-high 99% on Oct. 7. Ventilator use decreased by eight to 254. Patients are using 31% of the 813 ventilators in the county.
Positivity rate
The COVID-19 positive test rate for Tarrant County decreased to 11.12% from 12.67% in the latest available seven-day average data. The rate was last at a pandemic-high 30% on Jan. 7.
Vaccination data
According to Texas Department of State Health Services, 68.70% of Tarrant County residents 12 or older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 61.08% of residents 12 or older have been fully vaccinated.
DSHS also reports that 88.91% of Tarrant residents 65 or older have received at least one dose, and 82.31% of residents 65 or older have been fully vaccinated.
More than 73.88% of Texas residents 12 or older have received at least one dose, according to DSHS. Fully vaccinated Texas residents 12 or older are at 64.29%.
Tarrant County is offering free COVID-19 vaccines and testing at locations throughout the area.
