COVID-19 positivity rate in Tarrant County drops to lowest since September

Tarrant County reported 18 coronavirus deaths and 506 new cases on Thursday.

The latest pandemic-related deaths deaths include a Fort Worth man and woman in their 50s, five Fort Worth men in their 60s, an Arlington man and woman in their 60s, a Grand Prairie man in his 70s, a Hurst man in his 70s, a Fort Worth woman in her 80s, an Azle man in his 80s, a Hurst woman in her 80s, two Mansfield men in their 80s, an Arlington woman older than 90, and a Fort Worth woman older than 90.

All 18 had underlying health conditions, according to officials.

Tarrant County has reported 244,231 COVID-19 cases, including 2,930 deaths and an estimated 228,139 recoveries.

COVID-19 hospitalizations

Hospitalized COVID patients decreased by five to 415. It’s the fewest COVID hospitalizations since 405 on Oct. 14. The pandemic high was 1,528 on Jan. 6.

COVID-19 hospitalizations account for 8% of the total number of beds in Tarrant County and make up 10% of the 4,003 occupied beds. The 8% of total beds is the lowest rate since it was 8% on Oct. 23. The rate was at a pandemic-high 38% on Jan. 10.

Confirmed COVID patients decreased slightly to 8.04% of all available beds in the North Central Texas Trauma Region. It’s the lowest rate since it was 8.02% on Oct. 16.

Hospital beds

About 78% of Tarrant County’s hospital beds are occupied, according to county data. Available hospital beds increased by 99 to 1,145. The pandemic low of 661 was reported Jan. 4.

ICU beds

Adult ICU bed occupancy remained at 86% as of Wednesday. That’s the lowest since it was 85% on Nov. 9. The pandemic high was 99% on Dec. 28.

Ventilator use decreased by six to 267. Patients are using 30% of the 901 ventilators in the county.

Positivity rate

The COVID-19 testing positivity rate for Tarrant County was at 9% as of Monday in the latest available seven-day average data. It was last at 9% on Sept. 23. The rate was last at a pandemic-high 30% on Jan. 7.
