Hood County reports 2 more COVID deaths, provides age breakdown of cases

Hood County added two more coronavirus deaths this week for a total of 16.

The county has confirmed 778 COVID-19 cases, including 687 recoveries and 75 active cases. Four of the active patients are hospitalized. The other 71 are in home isolation. Five of the active cases, including two added this week, are 19 or younger.

Granbury, the county seat, has a population of about 10,000. Hood County has about 61,000 residents.

Thirteen of those who died were 60 or older.

The age breakdown of people who have tested positive in Hood County: 10% are 19 or younger, including nine younger than 10; 17% are in their 20s; 13% are in their 30s; 15% are in their 40s; 15% are in their 50s; 12% are in their 60s; 9% are in their 70s; 7% are in their 80s; 2% are in their 90s; and two patients are 100 or older.

More women than men — 55% to 45% — have tested positive.

“I remain in close collaboration with public school leadership across the county; they are all in compliance with Texas Educational Agency Public Health guidance for reopening,” Hood County Public Health Authority director Dr. David Blocker said in a release. “I have also been in coordination with private and charter schools in Hood County. We will continue to monitor closely and support as needed for any issues.”
