Why Tarrant County expects to see massive surge in COVID cases over next several days
Tarrant County reported 1,487 coronavirus cases and five deaths on Saturday, pushing the county past 37,000 total cases.
The spike in cases is due to an electronic lab report backlog from the Texas Department of State Health Services, according to county officials. County officials said 336 of Saturday’s reported cases are new. The others date back to 30 or more days ago and mostly include tests from private labs and had not been previously reported.
The county expects an increase in cases the next several days “while old data is received from DSHS.” An upitck in patient recoveries is also expected the next few days, the county said.
The latest COVID-19 deaths in the county include two Arlington woman in their 40s and 60s who had no underlying health conditions, an Arlington man in his 60s, a Benbrook woman in her 70s, and a Fort Worth man in his 80s.
Tarrant County has reported 37,072 COVID-19 cases, including 451 deaths and an estimated 26,396 recoveries.
