Collin County confirms 8 more coronavirus cases, including 2 Allen women in their 60s

Collin County confirmed eight new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, bringing its total to 53.

Two Allen women in their 60s contracted the coronavirus from a previously confirmed patient. None of the eight new patients required hospitalization but two of them, both in their 40s, have underlying medical conditions. Another new patient, a 27-year-old McKinney man, also had close contact with a confirmed case.

Eight of the 53 patients have recovered.

Three of the eight new patients recently traveled, including a 77-year-old Richardson woman who flew internationally.

Three of the county’s 45 current patients are hospitalized and 33 are in home isolation. One resident was traveling domestically when he was diagnosed and hasn’t yet been cleared to return home. The lone COVID-19-related death in the county occurred last week.

Health officials are currently monitoring 90 people for symptoms.

A shelter-in-place order for county residents goes into effect at midnight Tuesday. Other area counties including Dallas, Tarrant and Denton have made similar orders.
