Mark Cuban blasts Senate: It’s ‘unconscionable they haven’t got a deal done’ on stimulus
Mark Cuban continued to push politicians to pass stimulus legislation as soon as possible, with urgent pleas on social media and on national television networks Tuesday.
The Dallas Mavericks owner was on CNN’s AC 360 Tuesday night echoing sentiments he has espoused since the coronavirus pandemic brought the country to a standstill.
Senators have been trying to work out a deal for days but had reached no agreement on the package that is reported to exceed $6 trillion
“It’s unconscionable that they haven’t got a deal done. Every single day that there’s delay more businesses close, more people get fired and laid off,” Cuban told Anderson Cooper. “And they’re not coming back. We need to get that deal done first.”
Cuban posted angry, profane replies to Texas Sen. John Cornyn and New York Senator Chuck Schumer on Twitter on Tuesday morning.
“The economy is crashing and people are getting sick and dying because you two hard [expletive] think your agendas are bigger than the health and future of the American people,” Cuban posted on Twitter. “They are not. There is no perfect deal. TIME IS OUR ENEMY. Get this done today!”
Cuban said the longer it takes to get a deal done, the more small and medium-sized businesses will be forced to shut down and layoff employees.
“Who knows how long that will take,” he said on CNN. “Every delay, you have to add four or five or more days on to it,” before people receive the financial help. “We need something done now, immediately.”
Cuban remains hopeful that many small businesses can survive, as long as the stimulus package is passed soon.
“If small businesses can hang on, the money will be there to help them and to get them through this transition period,” he said. “But if we don’t get the legislation passed, it doesn’t matter. It’s crazy that they’re over-negotiating knowing every single minute businesses close. It’s really inconceivable that both sides of the aisle, particularly on the Senate side, didn’t see this coming. The enemy of progress is perfection. We don’t need a perfect deal, we need a done deal.”
