Kroger Marketplace in far north Fort Worth: Timeline revealed for store opening
The U.S. 287 corridor in far north Fort Worth is home to a frenzy of construction, from sprawling subdivisions to new shopping centers.
Commercial development hasn’t kept pace with residential growth, meaning families who live in relatively new homes around Haslet, Avondale and southeast Wise County must drive miles away to run errands, shop and buy groceries.
In late 2024, it was announced that a Kroger Marketplace is coming to Sendera Ranch, a fast-growing corner of Tarrant County. Recently filed records have shed light on the project’s timeline, including its opening.
Construction on the $19 million project at the northeast corner of Sendera Ranch Boulevard and Rancho Canyon Way will begin in October, according to state records. The estimated completion date for the Kroger Marketplace is October 2026.
When the Star-Telegram reached out to Kroger, a spokesman said the company expects to open the store in 2026.
At over 123,000 square feet, the Marketplace location will be larger than a typical Kroger store and offer a wider range of products, including home goods, clothing and electronics. It will be located in Sendera Rancho Marketplace, a roughly 20-acre shopping center planned for the northeast corner of Rancho Canyon Way and Sendera Ranch Boulevard.
The closest big box store to the site of the new Kroger is the Walmart Supercenter at 2401 Avondale-Haslet Road, about three miles south. The closest grocery stores, a Kroger at 12600 N. Beach St. and the Alliance H-E-B, are a roughly 20 minute drive from the Sendera Ranch community.
A Kroger Marketplace being built at 113 E. Bonds Ranch Road, along U.S. 287, is expected to open in 2025. Ground broke on the store, which will also have a gas station, in November 2023; it will anchor the Bonds Ranch Marketplace shopping center.
One of the largest grocery chains in the country, Kroger has 210 stores in Texas, including five in Fort Worth. The grocer’s sales were over $147 billion in 2024.
