What are TCU’s top salaries? Here are the 23 highest-paid university employees.

TCU coaches and administrators were among the private university’s highest-paid employees in 2023, according to its newly filed IRS Form 990.

Nonprofits are required to make their three most recent Form 990s available to the public. TCU’s 2024 filing, which covered the period from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, was obtained by the Star-Telegram on Wednesday.

TCU’s three highest-paid employees were football coach Sonny Dykes, men’s basketball coach James Dixon and Chancellor Victor Boschini. The Form 990 lists the salaries for a total of 23 employees.

Dykes’ total compensation was over $6.9 million in 2023 — the year the Horned Frogs went to the national championship — and included a $675,000 performance bonus. In his fourth year with TCU, Dykes is one of the highest-paid coaches in college football, according to USA Today. The Horned Frogs finished 9-4 in 2024, an improvement from their 5-7 season record in 2023.

Dixon was paid over $4.2 million in 2023, including a $50,000 performance bonus. In his ninth season with TCU, his contract was extended through the 2029-30 season last year. Dixon is the fifth-highest paid coach in the Big 12 conference and the 20th highest-paid coach in men’s college basketball, according to USA Today.

The TCU men’s basketball team finished the 2024-25 season with a 16-16 record and did not participate in a postseason tournament for the first time since 2021.

Five coaches and former athletic director Jeremiah Donati were among TCU’s 10 highest-paid employees.

Donati, who left the university in December to become director of athletics at the University of South Carolina, was paid a $544,676 bonus last year.

Chancellor Boschini received $2.7 million in compensation in 2023, including a $500,000 performance bonus. He was paid $698,717 in deferred compensation in 2023.

Boschini will be stepping down as chancellor on June 1, and is set to receive $148,750 in deferred compensation on May 31.

President Daniel Pullin, who will take up the chancellorship on June 1, was TCU’s ninth highest-paid employee in 2023. He received $884,625 in compensation, including a $50,000 performance bonus. Pullin got a $22,000 housing allowance that year.

TCU’s total revenue was $1.198 billion last year, a record high for the institution. Almost $707 million of that was generated from tuition and fees. The university bookstore, which primarily sells TCU-branded merchandise, created over $1.6 million in revenue.

The university’s expenses were more than $1 billion. TCU spent over $3.5 million on advertising and promotion. Compensation for TCU’s officers, directors and key employees was over $15.7 million. Other wages and salaries totaled roughly $271 million.
