Love Chick-fil-A but hate the line? This location in Fort Worth is making big changes
During the lunch rush, the two drive-through lanes at the Chick-fil-A off West Seventh Street can stretch as far as 500 feet in Montgomery Plaza.
Restaurant workers taking orders usually keep the line moving at a respectable pace, but the backups can sometimes disrupt traffic heading to Target or PetSmart.
That could soon change.
The owners of the shopping center seeking approval from the city of Fort Worth to dramatically reconfigure the drive-through area, records show.
Chick-fil-A would add a third lane for taking orders, which presumably could reduce the backups, as well as a second lane for food delivery alongside the restaurant. There would be some construction on the restaurant itself for a small expansion.
Site plans filed with the city also show a reconfiguration of the parking in the middle of the drive-through loop. The work would add a new entry to the drive-through lanes from the west side, near Wells Fargo. And the whole area would get some new landscaping.
The project requires city approval. It will go before the Zoning Commission on March 12, and then the City Council on April 8. Records don’t include details about a construction timeline.
This Chick-fil-A location has been a busy one since it first opened its doors at 6 a.m. on March 17, 2011. Hundreds of people camped out for 24 hours to get a chance to win a year’s supply of Chick-fil-A.
“The parking lot had become a sea of tents and picnic tables,” the Star-Telegram wrote.
Fun fact: This Chick-fil-A location in Montgomery Plaza, a former industrial area, was the Atlanta-based chain’s first “green” restaurant, back when LEED certifications were something very new.
The interior trim was made from recycled Chick-fil-A cups, the wood came from an old building in Georgia, and wall medallions pointing out green features to customers were made from the company’s own decommissioned stainless-steel fryers.
It cost about 20% more to build the original 4,617-square-foot store this way, we reported at the time. Pretty sure it didn’t take long for this busy location to make up for that extra expense.
