BBQ restaurant closes north of Fort Worth, 10th in a week to shut down
Meat U Anywhere, once known for the best barbecue in north Tarrant County, has closed a Trophy Club location after nine years and will focus on its flagship Grapevine restaurant, owner Andy Sedino said Monday.
Meat U Anywhere opened early in the Texas craft barbecue craze, bringing Grapevine and Trophy Club their first taste of peppered tenderloins and briskets, beef ribs and pork loin along with traditional barbecue platters.
But the arrival of new North Texas competition including an Original Roy Hutchins Barbecue in Trophy Club has shortened the waiting lines everywhere.
The flagship Meat U Anywhere, 919 W. Northwest Highway in Grapevine, remains open and needed more staffing and attention for the holiday season, Sedino wrote in a text message. The now-closed second location was at 91 Trophy Club Drive.
Meat U Anywhere is one of a spate of restaurant closings announced within days, including:
- Belzoni’s Catfish Cafe in Fort Worth, closing Sept. 27 so owner Dwight Cooley can retire and recover from a knee replacement.
- Campo Verde Mexican Bar & Grill in Dalworthington Gardens, announcing that it will close Dec. 24 to change to a different restaurant after its farewell run as a brightly lighted Christmas destination.
- Cat City Grill in Fort Worth, closing Sept. 28 due to high costs and slower business on the Near Southside.
- Colossal Sandwich Shop in Bedford, closing Sept. 27 due to owners’ health problems and business pressures.
- Enchiladas ¡Olé! in Fort Worth, now serving only takeout and delivery while it shares a location with its cousin, Holy Cue Texican BBQ. Owner Mary Patino Perez closed the Ridglea ¡Olé! after a dispute.
- La Familia Mexican Restaurant in Fort Worth, closed without explanation in the West 7th district.
- A Nizza Pizza location on Camp Bowie Boulevard West in Fort Worth will close Sept. 30.
- Sam Won Garden Korean Restaurant in Fort Worth, closing Sept. 27 due to the Chung family’s retirement.
- Sneaky Pete’s on Lewisville Lake, closing Sept. 28 to make way for new development.
Also, the Coppell-based Salad and Go chain closed seven drive-through stands in the Fort worth area among 41 closings nationwide. The drive-thru salad chain still has eight area stores.
