Another Dallas-Fort Worth restaurant honored: Steakhouse makes U.S. ‘best new’ list

A downtown steakhouse in a landmark hotel is the newest Fort Worth restaurant to share a national award.

The Wicked Butcher steakhouse is celebrating its companion Dallas location’s ranking as No. 6 on the list of U.S. “Best New Restaurants 2024” based on users’ ratings on Yelp.com.

Wicked Butcher, from the same Texas company that owns the Wild Salsa and Chop House Burger restaurants in Dallas and Fort Worth, won the honor for its location at 1717 Main St. in Dallas. The same menu is served at the Fort Worth location in the first-floor corner cafe and basement of the 1930-vintage Sinclair hotel, 512 Main St.

The Fort Worth location was recently ranked the No. 1 restaurant in the entire Marriott Autograph Collection hotel brand.

Yelp’s rankings praised Wicked Butcher as a “palatial” place to “feast on big beef” and its signature popovers, braised tenderloin hummus with chili oil, ginger-miso sea bass and dry-aged steaks

Wicked Butcher gets attention in both Fort Worth and Dallas by being different from other steakhouses, executive Nafees Alam said.

“I don’t know if you can pick the big steakhouses out from one another — the menus are along the same line,” he said this week.

“Our dishes have more of an eclectic flair. And we have hummus on the menu, and lamb,” he said.

Braised tenderloin hummus is definitely not your usual steakhouse fare. Neither is the beef Wellington.

The Fort Worth restaurant opened along with the hotel four years ago, and business has grown every year, Alam said. A dropoff in business lunches has been offset by a heavy weekend business that is “95% local,” he said.

The Wicked Butcher in Fort Worth also serves breakfast and lunch in the Sinclair’s first-floor bar and cafe. The midday menu features a wagyu pastrami-and-Gruyere sandwich or a handsome “Wicked” cheddar burger with au poivre sauce.

The Yelp “Best New Restaurants” list also included Casa Pollastro, 18160 Dallas Parkway, a Brazilian-Italian restaurant.

A separate Yelp list of “Best New Restaurants in the South” includes Yūjō, a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar at 12835 Preston Road.
