Surprises in two Fort Worth restaurants: A cellphone ban is out. Cold air and BBQ are in

Chef Tim Love’s new summer items at two of his restaurants are simple: cellphones and air conditioning.

For the first time, patrons at his upscale Caterina’s Italian restaurant in the Stockyards can use cellphones, although only at the bar or on the patio.

The special “summer chic” rules at Caterina’s, which drew attention last year for its no-phones policy, also include a relaxed dress code and a lunch special.

On Eats Beat Live, Love said he’ll keep the no-phones policy in the dining room becasue Caterina’s is “an experience — we want you to focus on the time you’re having.”

Caterina’s lunch special is a four-course, $39.95 rigatoni or spaghetti carbonara platter with either a meatball or arancini, a salad and either sorbet or tiramisu. It’s served Fridays through Sundays.

Caterina’s and Love’s other two Mule Alley restaurants, Paloma Suerte and Tannahill’s Tavern, also now offer golf-cart pickup from the valet parking stand at 122 E. Exchange Ave.

Caterina’s is open for dinner Wednesday and Thursday, for lunch and dinner Friday through Sunday; 682-267-0812, caterinasftx.com.

Woodshed Smokehouse gets air conditioning

The Woodshed Smokehouse, Love’s patio restaurant and grill near the Fort Worth Zoo, is offering the most refreshing summer addition of all: cold air.

The Woodshed, 3201 Riverfront Drive on the Trinity Trail, was originally built as an outdoor barbecue-and-beer garden.

Now, the west dining room has doors and air conditioning, with more indoor seating coming for the east dining room along with a new rooftop deck.

The menu still features everything from burgers, brisket, pork and beef ribs to oysters, ramen and chicken-fried steak.

A new menu addition weekends at lunch is a pan of “campfire biscuits,” served with butter, sausage gravy, jam and honey.

The Woodshed and Love’s other west side restaurant, Gemelle, will both close two weeks in early August for repairs, Love said. Both restaurants will get new decks or flooring.
