Here are the new green chile items in Fort Worth: birria tacos, blueberry Hatch margs

Texas food seasons are getting tangled.

Peach season is winding down. But at the coffee stand, it’s already pumpkin spice season.

But most Texans know that August is really Hatch green chile season.

The pepper crop north of El Paso took a hit from the heat this year, so peppers might be in short supply now and then.

So don’t miss the latest Hatch specials at supermarkets or restaurants such as Blue Goose Cantina and Blue Mesa Southwest Grill:

Green chile at Blue Goose

The Blue Goose Cantina locations in Fort Worth, Grand Prairie and Grapevine are new to Tarrant County, but not to Hatch chile.

It’s the 21st year for the Dallas-based restaurants to serve green chile specials such as Hatch birria tacos, Hatch salsa or queso chicken enchiladas and New Mexico-style Hatch green chile stew.

Of course, there’s a Hatch margarita and a new blueberry-Hatch chile version.

Look for Blue Goose Cantina locations at 1612 S. University Drive in University Park Village (817-386-5433), 2536 Interstate 20 West in Grand Prairie (469-909-2583) or 2455 E. Grapevine Mills Circle (817-251-3303).

Other locations are in Frisco, Highland Village, McKinney and Plano; bluegoosecantina.com.

Buffets, pozole at Blue Mesa in Fort Worth

Blue Mesa Southwest Grill, 612 Carroll St., is serving a daily Hatch special plus a special Hatch buffet on Aug. 17.

The daily menu features Hatch chiles rellenos, Hatch chicken enchiladas with hominy and Blue Mesa’s staple pozole.

The special buffet Aug. 17 features help-yourself servings of Hatch dishes.

Hatch specials are also featured on the regular Blue Mesa weekend buffets in August; 817-332-6372, bluemesagrill.com.

Central Market’s spicy stroll

Central Market’s supermarkets in Fort Worth and Southlake are offering a special Hatch “sampling stroll” Aug. 12.

But — surprise — both supermarkets are booked up.

I’ve never heard of a supermarket selling out. But if you’ll go another time, get the Central Market’ Cafe specials such as bourbon Hatch burgers, Hatch brisket quesadillas or Hatch shrimp penne pasta.

Central Market’s local stores are at 4651 West Freeway, Fort Worth, or 1425 E. Southlake Blvd., Southlake; centralmarket.com.
