Moldy cabbage, flies throughout kitchen seen at these Dallas restaurants

Moldy cabbage, flies throughout the kitchen and food stored at unsafe temperatures were seen at Dallas restaurants during the latest round of city health inspections, according to the inspection reports.

Dallas’ health inspections function on a 100-point system, where a score of 100 is considered perfect and anything below 69 is considered failing and must be reinspected within 10 days.

The reports compiled by the Star-Telegram contain health violation data from 101 inspections between June 28 and July 4.

One restaurant failed inspection:

Kashkan-Essence Of Fine Dining at 17370 Preston Road, Suite 490 scored 66 and failed a routine inspection due to various health hazards like cross contamination, mold on the ice machine, and dead pests on the paper towel dispenser, among other violations.

Six eateries had a follow-up inspection:

  • Blu’s Barbeque at 17630 Preston Road. Score: 86.
  • Meals On Wheels at 1440 W Mockingbird Lane. Score: 98.
  • Subway at 6813 W Northwest Highway. Score: 100.
  • The Crab Station at 2813 Commerce Street. Score: 100.
  • Vidorra at 2642 Main Street, Suite 100. Score: 100.
  • Will Call at 2712 Main Street. Score: 100.

Restaurant with other violations and problems with pests:

  • Jonathon’s Forestwood at 5337 Forest Lane. Health inspectors noted finding an ant crawling inside a soda-machine nozzle, prepared raw meat stored on top of a trash bin and an employee who was preparing food with open lesions on the hands and arms. Score: 91.
  • AFC Sushi inside Tom Thumb at 7117 Inwood Road. Inspectors reported that an employee wiped their nose with their hands and did not immediately wash them afterward. Inspectors also recorded salmon at 49 degrees and tuna at 51 degrees. Score 90.
  • Rodeo Goat at 1926 Market Center Blvd. Inspectors noted that food like cheese, cooked peaches, a beef patty and guacamole were stored at unsafe temperatures. Inspectors also found moldy cabbage in the walk-in cooler and raw beef stored above fresh vegetables. Score: 82.
  • Williams Fried Chicken at 7959 Great Trinity Forest Way. Inspectors reported flies flying throughout the restaurant and inside the walk-in cooler and mold in the ice machine. Score 82.
