Roaches, fruit flies, unsafe food temps found at these Tarrant County restaurants
One Tarrant County restaurant was temporarily closed, and roaches and an accumulation of fruit flies were seen at others during the latest round of county health inspections, according to the inspection reports.
The reports compiled by the Star-Telegram contain data on health violations from 190 inspections between June 21 and July 4.
Tarrant County’s health inspections function on a system where a score of 100 is considered perfect and a score of 70 is considered extremely poor. Tarrant County Public Health inspects all food establishments in the county except for those in Fort Worth, Arlington, Euless and North Richland Hills.
El Amigo at 5860 S. Dick Price Road in Kennedale was temporarily closed during a routine inspection after a water line burst. The restaurant remained closed until water service was restored. Score: 77.
Two restaurants received a score under 70:
- Italian Crust at 2140 Hall Johnson Road, Suite 100 in Grapevine scored 67. Inspectors found food in a nonworking cooler and toppings held at 49 degrees for over six hours, both of which were discarded. The kitchen also had an accumulation of fruit flies. The restaurant later scored 81 after a follow-up inspection.
- Noodle Works at 250 Randol Mill Ave, Suite 140 in Southlake scored 67 after health inspectors observed what appeared to be two dead roaches in the kitchen by the walk-in cooler kitchen, and staff’s food handler cards weren’t available, among other violations. The restaurant scored 99 after a follow-up inspection.
Two more establishments had problems with roaches:
- Wok&Roll Express at 1201 E. FM 1187, Suite 5 in Crowley. Health inspectors observed dead German roaches in the sink compartment. Score: 71.
- Fellowship Of The Parks at 2045 Bedford Road in Bedford. Inspectors observed one dead cockroach on the pantry floor. Score: 98.
Restaurant with other violations and low score:
Best Donut at 1012 S. Crowley Road, Suite E in Crowley received a score of 71 after inspectors noted that an employee returned from the restroom and began preparing food without properly washing their hands. Inspectors also found kolaches at 64 to 69 degrees and ordered them discarded immediately.
