A Brazilian steakhouse is moving into the old On The Border spot in Lake Worth
The former On the Border restaurant in Lake Worth already has a new tenant lined up.
The Gauchos Brazilian Steakhouse posted “Coming Soon” signs to the former Tex-Mex restaurant’s building at 6536 Northwest Loop 820 Freeway in Lake Worth, according to a few Facebook posts.
On The Border abruptly closed all of its company-owned restaurants, including every location in Texas, on June 12. After 44 years, the North Texas-based brand filed for bankruptcy and was then bought by Papa’s Restaurant Group, but did not last.
Other than the posted signs, there is no more information regarding the Brazilian steakhouse’s menu or opening timeline.
What is a Brazilian steakhouse?
A Brazilian steakhouse restaurant traditionally has gauchos (Brazilian cowboys) serving churrasco (Brazilian barbecue) in an all-you-can-eat rodizio-style service. Rodizio means rotation, which is exactly what the gauchos do – walk around the restaurant offering a constant rotation of meat options.
Gauchos roast the meats over an open fire on skewers (like a gyro) then bring them out to the tables and carve them straight from the skewer onto the plate.
The meat served is mostly beef, however, Brazilian steakhouses like Texas de Brazil also serve sausage, pork, chicken and sometimes lamb.
It’s a different steakhouse experience where diners can try a little bit of everything instead of having to choose just one entrée.
Because of the all-you-can-eat rodizio style experience, Brazilian steakhouses are usually on the pricier side, averaging $40 to $75 per person before tip and tax. The price includes endless amounts of meats, salad bars and buffet sides but not any extra drinks or desserts.
What to know about The Gauchos
The Gauchos Brazilian Steakhouse coming to Lake Worth seems to be an original business not tied to any already-established chains.
What we know is the restaurant is nearly 6,000 square feet, located at 6536 Northwest Loop 820 Freeway in Lake Worth.
