Moldy strawberries, bugs in food found in Dallas restaurant health inspections

One Dallas restaurant was temporarily closed and bugs were found in food at another location during recent city health inspections, according to the inspection reports.

The reports compiled by the Star-Telegram contain health violations from 224 inspections between May 14 and May 30.

Dallas’ inspections function on a 100-point scale, where a score of 100 is considered perfect and anything below 70 is considered failing.

Meadowstone Place, located at 10410 Stone Canyon Road, had a score of 82. The establishment was closed due to an “actively overflowing” grease trap at the time of the inspection.

Roaches were observed at three locations:

  • Lil Vee’s BBQ, located at 4353 Gannon Lane, had a score of 79.
  • Golden Corral, located at 1540 N. Cockrell Hill Road, had a score of 89.
  • Velarde Daiquiris To Go, located at 4410 Maple Ave., had a score of 94.

Inspectors found carrots “contaminated with bugs,” meats thawing at room temperature and foods past marked expiration dates at FFG Dallas, LLC, which is located at 921 W. Commerce St. The establishment had a score of 82.

At The Gibson, located at 17552 Dallas Parkway, inspectors noted moldy strawberries in a walk-in cooler, as well as mold in ice machines and expired sauce, soup and vegetables. The establishment had a score of 86.

Here are the inspection scores and violations for restaurants within the city limits of Dallas for May 24th- May 30th, 2026. A score of 100 is a perfect score and 70 is considered to be extremely poor. Scores below 80 require a re-inspection, and below 60 require closure and inspection before reopening.
