Rats, roaches found in latest Dallas restaurant inspections

Inspectors observed rats and roaches in Dallas food establishments during the latest round of city health inspections, according to the inspection report.

The report compiled by the Star-Telegram contains data from May 3 through May 16, 2026, and 402 inspections.

Dallas’ health inspections function on a 100-point system, where a score of 100 is considered perfect and anything below 69 is considered failing and must be reinspected within 10 days.

Inspectors noted the presence of roaches at four establishments:

  • Sweet Basil, located at 17610 Midway Road, had a score of 85. Dead roaches were found in a dry storage closet.
  • Tuyet Tofu, located at 9780 Walnut Street, had a score of 92. Both live and dead roaches were found at the location.
  • Dallas Tortilla & Tamale Factory, located at 309 North Marsalis Avenue, had a score of 93. An inspector observed a live cockroach.
  • Burger King, located at 11404 East Northwest Highway, had a score of 96. A dead cockroach was found on the floor near a prep table.

A rat was found at Luna’s Tortillas, located at 7406 Harry Hines Boulevard. The establishment had an overall score of 75.

A score of 100 is a perfect score and 70 is considered to be extremely poor. Scores below 80 require a re-inspection, and below 60 require closure and inspection before reopening.
