1 Frisco restaurant closed; roaches and warnings at others in health inspections

One Frisco restaurant was temporarily closed and cockroaches were found at another eatery in the latest round of city health inspections, according to the inspection reports.

Frisco’s restaurant inspections function on a demerit system: When the total number of demerits exceeds 30, the inspector may close the establishment at their discretion. The decision is based on the establishment’s history of compliance, the nature of the violations and other risk factors.

These reports compiled by the Star-Telegram contains data from May 17-23 and 77 inspections.

Gyro Twist Frisco at 8811 Teel Parkway, Suite 170, was temporarily closed after health inspectors asked the restaurant to provide a certified food manager onsite and sanitizer to properly wash food contact surfaces. The restaurant scored 14.

One restaurant had violations related to roaches:

At Red Hot Chilli Pepper at 8549 Gaylord Parkway, Suite 109, inspectors observed four live roaches in the kitchen area. The restaurant was asked to remove all food items from outside storage containers, and told failure to do so may result in a citation. Score: 13.

In addition to Red Hot Chilli Pepper, two other restaurants received citation warnings:

  • Hold My Chai at 5266 Independence Parkway, Suite 110. No evidence was provided that all employees had completed an accredited food handler training course within 30 days of employment. The health inspector also noted the establishment is in jeopardy of citations due to consistent violation markings. Score 9.
  • Parkview In Frisco at 7420 Rolling Brook Drive. A plumbing violation was noted for an inadequate air gap, less than one inch, between the water supply inlet and the flood level rim of a plumbing fixture, and a drain line was observed below the floor sink’s flood rim under the ice machine. This is a repeat violation, and future violations may incur a citation. Score 6.
