Roaches, pink mold found during latest Plano health inspection
Roaches were found at two Plano restaurants and molds were seen at two others, according to the city’s health inspection report.
Plano’s city health inspections function on a 100-point system: a score of 100 is considered perfect and a score of 70 is considered to be extremely poor. Each establishment receives between one and four routine inspections per year.
The report compiled by the Star-Telegram contains 77 inspections from May 10 through May 16.
Braum’s Ice Cream at 1428 Independence Parkway was closed for 20 minutes after an emergency inspection call regarding a water outage, but the inspector verified hot and cold running water at all fixtures. The eatery scored 100.
Two restaurants had violations related to roaches:
- Turan Uyghur Cuisine at 2001 Coit Road, Suite 163, health inspectors observed three glue traps with around 15-20 dead cockroaches on each. The restaurant scored 85.
- Egg N Bird at 212 W. Plano Parkway, a dead, dry roach was seen outside the back walk-in cooler. The eatery scored 97.
Two restaurants had violations related to molds:
- Dh Noodles at 2001 Coit Road, Suite 165, health inspectors observed baffled within a pink and black mold-like substance. The restaurant scored 89.
- Mango Thai Cuisine at 4701 W. Park Blvd., Suite 104, inspectors observed the ice machine with a mold-like substance on the ice chute.
10 restaurants received a low score:
- Mcneal’s Tavern at 1422 K Ave. Score: 70.
- Hunan Bistro at 2220 Coit Road, Suite 420. Score: 71.
- Krispy Krunchy Chicken at 3304 Coit Road, Suite 700B. Score: 73.
- Sushi Masa at 6101 W. Park Blvd. Score: 75.
- Chen’s Restaurant at 2220 Coit Road, Suite 430. Score: 76.
- Cruzitos Cocina Mexicana at 2300 14th St., Suite 135. Score: 76.
- Awesome at 1520 Independence Parkway. Score: 77.
- Restaurante Leylita at 2608 K Ave., Suite 100. Score: 79.
- Sushi Hana at 2109 W Parker Road, Suite 104. Score: 79.
- El Pollo Regio at 2430 14th St. Score: 79. The restaurant received a warning that it must have a certified food protection manager on-site during all hours of operation or face closure.
In addition to El Pollo Regio, three other restaurants received potential temporary closure warnings.
- Taqueria La Unica at 3100 14th St., inspectors observed repeat violations for improper cooling time and methods and warned the manager that the next inspection could result in fees and closure. The restaurant scored 85.
- Darna Mediterranean Market’s at 7700 Windrose Ave, food Service Permit expired on April 30. Payment is required by May 18 to avoid potential closure.
- Street By Chef Jimmy Li at 7800 Windrose Ave. The food service permit expired on April 30. The health inspector discussed the expired permit and potential closure with the manager on-site, but payment was verified, and the permit has now been paid for.
