Why this new Asian fusion restaurant on Magnolia draws hours-long lines

Velvety souffle pancakes and emerald matcha lattes is what draws two-hour lines to a new Asian fusion cafe on Magnolia.

Sweet Stacks is a new restaurant in Fort Worth serving Thai stir-fries, Japanese matcha and souffle pancakes– which are pancakes made using the French souffle technique.

Sweet Stacks filled the old brick and mortar of Vice Burger, which closed in June 2025.

Chef and owner Mina Sourignavong told the Star-Telegram that business has been so good since opening at the end of December, they are learning how to keep up.

“The souffle pancakes are popular, but they take 30 minutes to make,” she said. “We have customers willing to wait in line for two hours– whether they are happy about it or not.”

What’s with the line on Magnolia Avenue?

Sweet Stacks’ popularity lies in its namesake.

Customers line the curb of Magnolia Avenue waiting to try the fluffy, cloud-like pancakes.

The souffle pancake actually originated in the U.S. Chef Nathan Tran in Hawaii took the French souffle cooking practice and applied it to the classic American pancake. Many people associate this treat with Japan because the snack is widely spread and more popular there.

At Sweet Stacks, souffle pancakes are served in a stack of two, dressed with sweet or savory sauces and toppings.
