New Japanese diner and bar off South Main has Fort Worth foodies buzzing
A new Japanese restaurant in Fort Worth has been getting lots of buzz on social media — and no, it’s not a sushi place.
Its name is Ichiro Izakaya Diner and Bar, and it’s located at 401 Bryan Ave., Fort Worth.
This downtown Fort Worth neighborhood is home to local favorites like Sabar Barbecue, Panther City Barbecue, and Coco Shrimp, but it lacked a Japanese restaurant until Ichiro Izakaya opened its doors.
“Izakaya” is traditionally a type of Japanese bar that serves small snacks and alcoholic drinks. In English, it directly translates to “stay-drink-place,” so grab a drink and get comfy. Think of it as the Japanese version of an Irish pub or Spanish tapas bar.
Ichiro Izakaya is still in its soft opening phase, but it is open for business every day except Monday.

What’s on the menu at Ichiro Izakaya?
The menu at Ichiro Izakaya focuses on Japanese yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and charcoal-grilled items rather than just small bar bites.
Here’s a look at the menu:
- Small plates consist of fried chicken wings, octopus bites, shumai dumplings, spicy salmon, chicken katsu, shrimp tempura and egg rolls.
- Yakitori options are all chicken— chicken thigh, breast, wings, drumettes, chicken heart and meatballs. Ichiro offers one beef tenderloin yakitori option.
- Other beef options include ribeye skewers, grilled pork sausage, grilled beef tongue, grilled lamb chop and pork skewers.
- Seafood options include teriyaki yellowtail, salt-cured yellowtail, seared scallops, grilled shrimp, grilled salmon.
- There are grilled vegetarian skewer options — bacon wrapped tomatoes, seasonal mushrooms or broccoli and tofu.
- Noodles and fried rice
How much does it cost to eat at Ichiro Izakaya?
Traditionally, Izakaya bars serve affordable small plates. Ichiro Izakaya in Fort Worth prices range from $10 to $20 per guest.
Members of the Facebook Fort Worth Foodies group praised the new digs for “good eating and pricing.”
“We just ate there today and it was fantastic!! This place deserves attention!” another member wrote.

You can find Ichiro Izakaya Diner and Bar at 401 Bryan Ave., Suite 109 in Fort Worth. Hours are from 4:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and Sunday; 4:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. They are closed on Mondays.
