Rotten meat, rodent droppings found during Tarrant County restaurant inspections
One Tarrant County restaurant received a low score during the July 20-26 health inspections, and rotten meat, roaches and rodent droppings were found at others, according to data from the county compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Tarrant County Public Health has transitioned to a new inspection report format. A perfect score was 0 demerits under the old system. The new system considers 100 as the highest possible score, and 70 is considered extremely poor. Restaurants scoring below 70 require a follow-up inspection.
Palate Garden at 1029 N. Saginaw Blvd. in Saginaw scored 69 on July 23. A certified food manager wasn’t on site during the inspection, and yellow and black debris was found inside an uncovered, unlabeled container of what appeared to be sugar. The inspector also found a bottle of Raid in the kitchen that was apparently being used instead of commercial pest control services.
Burritos Krayzi’s #2 at 821 W. Pipeline Road in Hurst scored 84 on July 23. The inspector found larva in a trash bag that contained rotten meat. A black substance was growing on the back wall of the ice machine, and slime was found in the soda dispenser.
Afrimart at 425 W. Bedford Euless Road in Hurst received a high score of 96 on July 20, but the inspector noticed rodent droppings in the the back room and expired canned goods.
Sushi Soho at 1925 Airport Freeway in Bedford scored 76 on July 20. Some kitchen employees didn’t have food handler certificates, and a live roach was found on the ice cream cooler.
Belmont Asia, a convenience store at 6940 Baker Blvd. in Richland Hills, scored 81 on July 20. There was no Tarrant County Public Health food permit found at the establishment. The inspector noticed dead roaches on the grill and live roaches coming out of the reach-in cooler.
Doña Carmen Mexican and Salvadorian Grill at 4033 E Belknap St. in Haltom City scored 82 on July 23. The inspector found uncovered food in the cooler and a dead cockroach by the back door.
Los Alberto’s Mexican Food at 804 W. Pipeline Road in Hurst scored 86 on July 23. The cooks’ food handler cards were expired, and a roach was seen walking around underneath the grill.
Zenabu Market at 544 W. Harwood Road in Hurst scored 89 on July 20. No health permit was posted in the establishment, and a small German cockroach was seen in the restroom.
Twisted Root Burger at 2820 Central Drive in Bedford scored 86 on July 20. Roaches were found in the restaurant, and a follow-up inspection was conducted on July 22. The eatery received a perfect score of 100 in the follow-up inspection.
Tarrant County Public Health inspects and scores all restaurants in the county except for those in Fort Worth, Arlington, Euless and North Richland Hills.
