Roaches, rodent droppings found in Tarrant County restaurant inspections. 2 closed

Three Tarrant County establishments were temporarily closed for serious health violations, and roaches and rodent droppings were found at others during Nov. 17-30 inspections, according to data from the county compiled by the Star-Telegram.

The kitchen at Gateway Church, located at 700 Blessed Way in Southlake, voluntarily closed Nov. 25 due to no hot water. The problem was corrected, and the kitchen was allowed to reopen the same day.

American Food and Vending at 601 Weir Way in White Settlement was also without hot water and voluntarily closed prior to inspection.

Tarrant County Public Health is transitioning to a new inspection report format. A perfect score was 0 demerits under the old system. The new system considers 100 as the highest possible score and indicates no violations.

None of the 299 establishments inspected received scores lower than 70. Restaurants that score under 70 require a follow-up inspection.

Quick Pantry at 800 N. Crowley Road in Crowley scored 94 on Nov. 22. The inspector found possible rodent droppings in some of the storage cabinets.

Spring Creek Barbeque at 1509 Airport Freeway in Bedford scored 78 on Nov. 25. A dead roach and several drain flies were found in the salad prep area, no food manager or food handler certificates were available, and some food was stored uncovered.

Sammy’s on the Lake at 6680 Peden Road near Fort Worth scored 85 on Nov. 21. The facility was operating without a permit, mold was found on some of the internal parts of the ice machine and a half-dead roach was seen on a hand sink nozzle. The establishment scored 96 on a follow-up inspection later the same day.

Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine at 977 Melbourne Road in Hurst scored 87 on Nov. 18. The inspector found unlabeled chemical spray bottles, raw chicken and beef stored inside shopping bags and a roach on the wall near the dishwashing machine.

Jatra Bar and Kitchen at 2208 Central Drive in Bedford scored 92 on Nov. 22. The inspector found insufficient hot water at one of the hand sinks, eggs stored above a safe temperature and a dead roach in the electrical closet. Roach parts were also found in the hallway.

Family Dollar Store at 4125 Denton Highway in Haltom City scored 95 on Nov. 20. Black organic matter was found in two of the coolers and five dead roaches were seen in the storage area. The inspector also noted three dented cans in one of the aisles.

LA Burger at 1540 Keller Parkway in Keller scored 83 on Nov. 18 for a repeat violation, among other things. No food manager or food handler certificates were available. The inspector noted that no certified food manager has worked at the establishment for the past four years.

Sixty-six establishments received a perfect score of 100.
