Arlington meat market closed due to poor score in latest restaurant health inspections

An Arlington meat market failed a health inspection and a hamburger joint will have to undergo a follow-up after inspectors between Dec. 12 and Christmas found health code violations at those businesses, according to information from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.

African Union Market, at 831 NE Green Oaks Blvd., failed its inspection with a score of 66. The business is a grocery story that offers takeout. An employee at African Union Market said on Tuesday that it the business has reopened and that problems “have been rectified.” A manager was not immediately available to expand on what that meant.

Airways Hamburgers at 1106 N. Collins St. passed its inspection but will have to undergo a follow-up inspection because it scored 72. A person who answered the phone at Airways Hamburgers hung up when the Star-Telegram called for comment.

In Arlington, restaurants and other businesses that sell or distribute food are scored on an out-of-100 model, with points taken off as health code violations are found. A score of less than 70 is considered to be poor and inspectors conduct followups at any business that scores less than 75.

Arlington had perfect scores at Elotes La Tia, a pushcart that sells street food; Jack in the Box at 5340 Matlock Road; Loving Hut Vegan Cuisine at 4519 Matlock Road; Taco Bell at 1101 N. Collins St.; and Zalat Pizza at 1805 N. Collins St.

Here are the inspection scores and violations for restaurants within the city limits of Arlington for Dec. 12th - Dec. 25th, 2021. A score of 100 is a perfect score and 70 is considered to be extremely poor. Reinspections will be conducted for restaurants that score 75 or less. If serious health and sanitation violations are considered an imminent health hazard, the restaurant will be closed until the identified health hazard has been mitigated.
