Taylor Sheridan among group selected to plan 200th anniversary of Texas

Taylor Sheridan is helping plan a Texas-sized party.

The Fort Worth-raised creator is one of nine people selected by Gov. Greg Abbott for his “Texas Bicentennial Commission,” which is planning a 200th anniversary celebration for the state in 2036.

Texas lawmakers established the commission through Senate Bill 1350 during last year’s 89th legislative session to coordinate celebrations for the big anniversary. There was also a commission formed to celebrate Texas’ 150th anniversary in 1986.

The commission is made of 23 members, including nine appointed by Abbott. In addition to Sheridan, the other eight hand-picked members are:

  • John L. Nau III: Houston businessman and former CEO of Silver Eagle Distributors. Nau will chair the commission.
  • James Perry Bryan Jr.: Houston-born founder and CEO of Torch Energy Advisors Inc.
  • Ashley Bowes Cash: Lubbock real estate and oil and gas investor.
  • Tilman Fertitta: United States ambassador to Italy and San Marino, and Houston Rockets owner.
  • Joe Gebbia: Co-founder of Airbnb and the chief design officer at the National Design Studio.
  • Charlotte Jones: Dallas Cowboys co-owner and chief brand officer.
  • Zachary Levi: Actor known for “Chuck,” “Tangled” and “Shazam!”
  • Jack Martin: Dallas entrepreneur and founder of Public Strategies Incorporated.

The rest of the commission will include the executive directors of the Texas Economic Development and Tourism Office, Texas Historical Commission and Texas Commission on the Arts.

In addition, the directors of the Texas Film Commission, the travel information division of the Texas Department of Transportation and the Institute of Texan Cultures at the University of Texas at San Antonio are part of the commission.
