How North Texas kids can become a SEA LIFE mini marine biologist

A North Texas aquarium is giving kids a chance to turn their love for the ocean into something bigger.

SEA LIFE Grapevine is searching for Dallas Fort-Worth’s first ever “Mini Marine Biologist,” and the opportunity comes with a hands-on experience tied to the role.

“We really want to inspire local kids about marine biology and conservation, so if your son or daughter is super interested in marine biology or just even loves sea creatures, this is for them,” communications manager John Sullwold said.

The contest is open to all ages and runs through April 19.

Here’s what to know.

How can my child enter the SEA LIFE Grapevine contest?

To enter, kids must write a 100-word essay about why they love the ocean and create a drawing of an imaginary sea creature.

“They can use clay, paint, or whatever they would like. We’re looking for creativity, a love for the ocean, for sea creatures and for conservation,” Sullwold said.

The child selected as the “Mini Marine Biologist” will receive annual passes to SEA LIFE Grapevine for up to six people, along with a private behind-the-scenes tour led by an aquarist, and a chance to help spread ocean conservation.

The total prize value is listed at about $584.

Sullwold said the experience is designed to give the winner a closer look at how the aquarium operates.

“They’ll get to go behind the scenes and maybe even see one of their favorite sea creatures get fed,” he said.

Entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges, including SEA LIFE staff, and evaluated based on creativity, imagination and a demonstrated passion for protecting sea life.

Only one entry is allowed per child. Families can submit entries through SEA LIFE Grapevine’s website.
