Dallas Cowboys

Here come the ‘elements.’ Roof open for Cowboys vs. Eagles

Some of that cool fall air you’re feeling will also flow through AT&T Stadium Sunday when the Dallas Cowboys (5-4) host the Philadelphia Eagles (8-1).

The stadium roof was opened at about 5:40 p.m., before kickoff at 7:30 p.m. At 6:05 p.m. it was 55 degrees in Arlington, and the temperature was predicted to stay in the low 50s through Sunday night.

Sunday’s game will be the sixth time AT&T has gone roof open, doors closed, since the Stadium opened in 2009. The Cowboys are 2-3 in the previous five games played in that configuration.

The Cowboys last played hosts with roof open and doors closed in two games during the 2015 season, losing 33-27 in overtime to the Eagles on Nov. 8, 2015, and dropping a 19-16 game to the New York Jets on Dec. 19.

The Cowboys went 4-12 that year, if you don’t remember. Here’s to better roof open, doors closed memories, Cowboy fans.

“We typically have fairly short discussions on it about what we want to do.” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said about the configuration each week. “They don’t last long. We just make a decision and go.”

Could Dez Bryant (71 career receiving touchdowns) be the provider of some of those better memories Sunday night? His next touchdown will put him in front of Bob Hayes (71) for the all-time lead in touchdowns for a Cowboys receiver. But he hasn’t caught a touchdown pass in the last three games.

His last came in the Cowboys’ 40-10 win at San Francisco on Oct. 22.
