From Mansfield Timberview to the Harlem Globetrotters? Meet Lili Thompson
Mansfield Timberview's Lili Thompson has a chance to continue her basketball career with ... the Harlem Globetrotters?
Yes, the local product has been "drafted" by the Globetrotters after a standout college career at Stanford and Notre Dame. Thompson posted on her social media account about the day.
Thompson is one of five players -- and the only female -- drafted by the group known for its entertainment and circus-like traveling show.
Thompson had a standout career at Timberview and parlayed that into an impressive college career. She scored more than 1,000 points in three seasons at Stanford, and was Notre Dame's point guard before sustaining a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament tear in her left knee last season.
Although Thompson was the only female drafted, the class included a couple others with Texas ties. Lou Dunbar II, the son of former Globetrotters player "Sweet" Lou Dunbar, is a Houston native who played at Oklahoma City University. And Joseph Kilgore is a Houston native who had an impressive college career at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The other draft picks included Manchester United and French national soccer team midfielder Paul Pogba and Thor Bjornsson, the reigning "World's Strongest Man" winner who played pro basketball in his native Iceland.
