Rangers coach Tony Beasley recovering after surgery
Texas Rangers third-base coach Tony Beasley is recovering in Houston after undergoing surgery Monday to remove a cancerous tumor, and manager Jeff Banister said that doctors were pleased with the procedure.
Beasley has been battling rectal cancer since February.
Banister spoke with Beasley’s wife, Stacy, on Monday.
“Everything went well,” Banister said. “They feel confident that the prognosis is great and they were very confident by being able to reattach everything that quality of life ... everything will be good.”
Beasley, who left the team last week, said that the recovery period is six weeks, some of which he will spend at his home near Norfolk, Va. The end of the recovery period would coincide with the beginning of the postseason, and he told players he plans to be there if the Rangers secure a playoff spot.
“He’s been bringing every day, even knowing that he has cancer,” shortstop Elvis Andrus said. “I think that’s one of the reasons as a team we’ve been able to overcome a lot of adversity this year, because you watch him, the way he handles every single day, it makes you realize a lot of things.”
