Mitch Moreland’s big week earns American League honor
Mitch Moreland was named the American League Player of the Week after hitting .455 with five home runs and nine RBIs.
He’s the first Rangers player to earn the weekly award in 2016 and it’s the first of Moreland’s career.
Moreland led the league with 25 total bases and 1.136 slugging percentage.
Moreland hit four homers in the Rangers’ four-game sweep of the Royals, including a walk-off homer in the ninth on Saturday. The last time a Rangers player hit at least four homers in a four-game series it was Moreland against the Orioles June 29-July 2, 2015. Moreland leads the Rangers with seven homers since the All-Star break, tied with the A’s Khris Davis for the A.L. lead.
Adrian Beltre was the last Rangers player to earn the weekly award in the final week of last season.
