Rangers recall Drew Robinson, place Dario Alvarez on DL
Utility man Drew Robinson has been recalled from Triple A Round Rock to provide relief for banged-up outfielders Jared Hoying and Delino DeShields.
To make room for Robinson, left-handed reliever Dario Alvarez was placed on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to Friday) with a strained left elbow.
Hoying was in the starting lineup Sunday a day after crashing into the outfield wall while making a catch in the fifth inning. He had the air knocked out of him and woke up with a little bit of soreness in his right jaw and the right side of his torso.
Robinson was on the Opening Day roster before being optioned to Round Rock on April 12. He is hitting .264 with a homer and 11 RBIs in 38 games at Triple A. The 25-year-old has played 18 games at second base and 12 at both third base and in the outfield.
Alvarez is 2-0 with a 3.48 ERA in 13 appearances over two stints with the Rangers this season. Manager Jeff Banister said Alvarez came out of his last appearance Thursday at Boston with soreness.
