Richland turns it on in the fourth and overtime to come back against Boswell

Richland quarterback Drew Trent connected with running back Rashee Rice on passes of 12 and 19 yards respectively late in the fourth quarter, capping a two-touchdown comeback and forcing overtime. The Class 5A Division I game, played in Frisco, saw Trent convert a key third down in overtime before the eventual game-winner. Richland moves on to the Class 5A Division I regional round where it will face Parkland at a site and time TBA.
Key players: Trent’s two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter to Rice helped Richland overcome a 21-7 deficit, and Trent finished with 133 yards through the air, with Rice catching nine balls for 96 yards. Trent, who also rushed for 65 yards, got off to a slow start before getting going late in the fourth. Boswell quarterback Dutch Patterson, who rushed for over 100 yards, had the game’s opening score on the game’s first snap, rushing for a 60-yard score and giving Boswell a 7-0 lead after the first quarter. Patterson threw for the game’s second score, connecting with Breshun Berry on a 15-yard strike, before Richland’s Kevin Garcia’s 42-yard interception return cut the lead in half at 14-7 at halftime. Patterson’s second rushing touchdown pushed the lead back to two scores before Richland made the fourth-quarter comeback.
Key stat: Richland prevailed thanks in part to a Brandon Johnson 1-yard touchdown run and a Ja’Cory Ashley interception in overtime.
